Elena Cassandra Tarabotti is a member of the Venetian nobility and, like many of her contemporaries, a nun against her will. She uses the cloistered status imposed on her to participate intensively in the debate about gender equality.
Tarabotti's work, La Semplicità ingannata, bears eloquent witness to this discussion – a German translation was published as early as the 1670s.
The concert, developed by Gerd Amelung and Babette Hesse, paints a vivid picture of the intellectual world of the 17th century. The texts are commented on, counteracted, and underscored by music originating from the Academia degl'Incogniti.
Barbara Strozzi, among others, was a member of this Accademia. Her virtuoso works form the backbone of this word-and-music program, which spans the period from Giulio Caccini and his daughter Francesca Claudio Monteverdi to Claudio Monteverdi.
