mi mundo flamenco
Night Watch. A state of transition. An in-between time in which the tension between yesterday and what is to come becomes palpable. It is a space for breaks, repetition, and empty spaces. "The music is not in the notes. It is in the silence in between." Mozart already knew the magic of the in-between spaces. What was, what will be?
It is a new phase of life that raises questions. Which memories remain? Which would rather be forgotten, which will not be forgotten? Have I already danced all the dances I wanted to dance? Is now the right time to recognize dreams as dreams?
With the necessary openness to the unusual in-between, La Mona embarks on a dance-based exploration. The poet Eduardo Galeano says, "To remember is to guide the past through the heart once more." Thus, La Mona develops a survival strategy by weaving a new garment from old, intertwined memories. What remains is the perpetual realization that without dance, everything is nothing.
The performance is in German and Spanish.
La Mona has been fascinated by the stage since childhood. She began her career with classical music, acting, and Argentine tango. She learned flamenco dance at the renowned Amor de Dios dance school in Madrid, Berlin, Seville, and Jerez de la Frontera, where she found her artistic home. With her flamenco group "azabache Flamenco," she performed on stages large and small for 30 years. She teaches flamenco dance, leads a flamenco choir, and performs "Navidad Flamenca" at the Pfefferberg Theater every December.
Her motto is "one dance a day."
