18 months the three members of Mammal Hands have worked on their third album "Shadow Work". The trio from the English city of Norwich integrates various influences into its compositions: Spiritual jazz in the spirit of John Coltrane can be found as well as Indian music, folk and classical music. This mixture results in a very unique, original sound created by saxophonist Jordan Smart, pianist Nick Smart and drummer Jesse Barrett. Many of the compositions have evolved from extensive improvisation sessions, each of the three musicians having been integrated into the writing process that followed.

In the UK, Mammal Hands already have a sterling reputation as a live band. The trio relies more on energetic interplay than on individual solo performances by the members. The experiences of touring have also been incorporated into the studio work. Mammal Hands succeeds in taking the energy of their performances into the studio. "Shadow Work" - this is first-class jazz from the 21st century.
