The Frictive Frequencies concert is being held at Ausland, 60 Lychener Str.

The Frictive Frequencies concert series shines a light on some of the most behind-the-scenes creators of Berlin’s DIY concert scene for improvised music. Over the years, they have all developed remarkable forms of expression as artists, but have often taken a back seat in favor of their work as organizers.

Frictive Frequencies now brings the artistic side of these organizers to the forefront, giving something back to this scene. The invited guests present their own unique sonic languages and share their experiences in artistic and organizational practice through short talks.

The performances by schoco mune (they/them) are explosive, intuitive, and physical. A dismantled piano, manipulated with whatever happens to be nearby. A mixing console with a few pedals in a speaker setup that causes feedback—or… schoco mune began to free themselves from conventional musical approaches and traditional gender norms in 2020. By using sound as a tool to represent human perception, pain, emotions, feelings, thoughts, and imagination, they explore a cognitive process through their performance.

Notorische Ruhestörung works as an artist, organizer, and activist, focusing primarily on sound and music, but also in other areas such as video, performance, zines, and painting, DIY noisy electronics, and improvisation. As a long-time member of Berlin’s self-organized scene, Notorische Ruhestörung is interested in social struggles and real-life experiences. Notorische Ruhestörung combines various musical styles and art movements and uses drums, guitar, homemade instruments, and keyboards.

İpek Odabaşı is a noise artist, sound artist, experimental DJ, and curator born in Istanbul and based in Berlin. Ateliers – Kantine, and co-founder and coordinator of the concert series A.I.D.
