London's music scene is bursting with breathtaking talent. Music in which young people let off steam, completely unafraid to push boundaries. One of the most exciting new bands is Kokoroko.
The eight-piece collective, led by a female horn section and fronted by trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, plays a raw yet immensely soulful version of Fela Kuti-influenced Afrobeat.
Kokoroko combine the sound of West African rhythms with the depth of the London jazz scene to create a unique sound that instantly captures the body and soul, inviting the listener to dream and dance along and creating ecstatic audience reactions.
Kokoroko were awarded the Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Award - and more than deservedly so.
