The second exhibition on the subject of Bernau verNETZt will explore both the public urban space and the virtual world, illuminating the topic of networks from several perspectives.

What lies hidden behind the everyday applications of large technical corporations? For Invisible Networks, artists Marina Resende Santos and Jakob Margit Wirth went in search of clues.

Now Bernd, an AI agent for Bernau, comes to life. He sends visitors from the gallery on a short journey through the town. They are given a few tasks to fulfil along the way and are asked to network with BERND and the town of Bernau. They also feed the AI with their information. Once they have completed the tasks, they receive the key to previously hidden information about Bernd and how he works. They come into contact with the artificial intelligence themselves; it's all about the experience and critical scrutiny. Do I trust the AI? Is it my friend and companion or is it stealing my data? How much am I prepared to reveal?

A hands-on exhibition that combines the real and virtual worlds and encourages the people of Bernau to engage with the familiar in a new way. It also offers visitors from outside the town, especially younger visitors, the opportunity to get to know Bernau in a playful way.

We will open on 11 April at 6 pm, when Bernd will be brought to life and the first visitors will contact him, followed by the official welcome at 7 pm.

On 3 May at 4 pm, we invite you to a panel discussion. Here, Resende and Wirth will meet with the artist duo Malpractice from Vienna, who will talk about their work with artificial intelligence, answer questions and provide deeper insights into their own experiences and their art.
