International Short Film Festival Berlin - DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION

Cultural heritage, traditions and personal stories empower, provide stability and offer a foundation for revolutionary identities. By the same token, their nonreflective continuities can harbour countless hidden risks. When places disappear, identities and stories become lost.

Not everyone is allotted or finds a place in the handed-down stories that serve as the raw material from which history is made: a displaced sea people in Mumbai, a Javanese wargame, Brazilian rituals, the search for solace in traditions or in the healing of a queer heir in China – the works assembled here ask how past and present can inspire one another to shape decolonial practices.
