35 years ago, in the autumn of 1989, courageous citizens took to the streets and put an end to the SED regime. Offices of the Ministry for State Security were occupied throughout the GDR to stop the destruction of documents.

On January 15, 1990, demonstrators broke into the Stasi headquarters and secured the secret police's documents there too. In doing so, they laid the foundation for making the files accessible for investigation.

On the historic site in Berlin-Lichtenberg, you can trace the history of the place and learn more about the former GDR secret police.

As part of the tour "The Stasi and the Women", you will get to know the permanent exhibition on the Stasi Records Archive and can take a look into an archive room with the original documents.

Using short stories and file examples, we will show how the Stasi collected, managed and used its information for its own purposes with the help of women. At the same time, you will learn how oppositional women became the focus of state security and were systematically monitored.

After the tour, you can visit the sample file collection of the Stasi Records Archive. You can also apply to view the files directly on site.

The number of participants is limited to 15 people. You can register in advance at: einblick-ins-geheime@bundesarchiv.de or by phone at 030 18 665-6699.
