Frau Luna – Operetta in two acts by Paul Lincke

Fritz Steppke is a true Berliner. He has invented a stratosphere express balloon and now wants to fly to the moon with his friends Lämmermeier and Pannecke to meet the man in the moon. Marie, his sweetheart, doesn't think much of this plan. For her, as for her aunt, Fritz Steppke's landlady, it's all just a pipe dream. They try to prevent the trip to the moon.

To everyone's surprise, however, the Berliners actually land on the moon, where the three friends and the involuntarily accompanying Mrs. Pusebach are not exactly welcomed by Theophil, the local steward, and Miss Groom. Theophil has his hands full trying to win back the goodwill of his bride Stella: During a previous visit to Earth for the lunar eclipse, he had a little adventure in the Tiergarten with Frau Pusebach, of all people. Unexpectedly for the travelers, the man in the moon turns out to be a sprightly widow who takes a liking to Fritz Steppke, while Prince Sternschnuppe has been trying in vain for millennia to win Frau Luna's heart. Frau Luna is delighted to welcome the unusual guests from Earth, especially as the stars, including Venus and Mars, are visiting the moon. Complications abound. And all the Berliners wanted to do was take a look...

Theophil has the right idea, and when Prince Sternschnuppe brings Marie up from Earth in his Milky Way cruiser, all the couples end up happily together. Whether on the moon or on the Spree, it is well known that nothing can really shake true Berliners, and nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the Berlin air.
