A conversation offering insights into the life and thought of the Prussian rabbi and Jewish scholar, and his image of Jesus.
Abraham Geiger's image of Jesus
Abraham Geiger (1810-1874) was a Prussian rabbi. He was one of the first and most important thinkers of Reform Judaism, as well as a significant Jewish scholar in the field of Jewish studies. His engagement with the Jewish Jesus and Christianity represents a counter-narrative: "There is no Christian faith without Judaism." In his opinion, Jews should be recognized as key partners in the study of early Judaism.A series of conversations offering insights into the lives and thoughts of outstanding Jewish philosophers, scholars, and rabbis. All three not only shaped liberal Judaism but also significantly influenced Jewish-Christian dialogue. The series concludes with a conversation about the life of a Jewish woman who survived concentration camps and forced labor, lived in Israel and Germany, and called for tolerance and respect.
With Holger Banse, retired pastor and author of several works on Christian-Jewish topics. Organized by the Working Group of Christians and Jews in the Spandau Church District.
