Opera art between passion and politics: The plot of FEDORA
Set in the dazzling world of European high society, FEDORA paints a dramatic portrait of an elite whose private passions are inextricably intertwined with political calculation. On the eve of her wedding, Russian Princess Fedora Romazoff loses her fiancé to an assassination attempt. Convinced that she must expose the perpetrator – Count Loris Ipanoff – she follows him to Paris. But what she learns there changes everything: Loris acted in self-defense, and her fiancé's death was the result of a fatal adultery. The tragedy unfolds – and ends in a harrowing finale in the Swiss Alps.
Giordano's music interweaves passion and melancholy with colorful orchestration and unforgettable arias such as "Amor ti vieta" – made world famous by Enrico Caruso. To this day, FEDORA fascinates with its musical refinement and dramatic depth.
Christof Loy stages Giordano's FEDORA in Berlin
After celebrated successes in Stockholm and Frankfurt, the internationally acclaimed director Christof Loy brings his highly acclaimed FEDORA production to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the first time. With a keen sense of psychological nuances and stylistic clarity, Loy illuminates the title character's inner turmoil and creates a dense web of relationships – ingeniously realized in Herbert Murauer's stage design and costumes.
