Panel discussion on the Day of Action for the History of Democracy
Sophie Kirchner, born and raised in East Berlin in 1984, portrays young men in the eastern German states in her series "Staying." They appear in their own words and images: they talk about leaving, staying, and returning, about political developments, and their involvement in clubs and subcultures.
Philipp Baumgarten, born and raised in what is now Saxony-Anhalt in 1985, documents everyday situations and snapshots in his photo archive "Central Germany," primarily from his hometown of Zeitz. His photographs show what remains—and what changes in rural areas. Together, they create a multifaceted inventory of eastern Germany.
Elisabeth Kaiser, born in Gera in 1987, was elected to the Bundestag in 2017. There, she is involved in various issues of domestic, family, and European policy. From 2023 to 2025, she served as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Construction. Since May 2025, Elisabeth Kaiser has served as Minister of State at the Federal Ministry of Finance and Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany.
The panel discussion will take place as part of the Day of the History of Democracy and will be moderated by Dr. Mike Lukasch, Director of the Museum in the Kulturbrauerei.
The event is part of the accompanying program for the temporary exhibition "Eastern Perspectives: Photographs by Sophie Kirchner and Philipp Baumgarten." The exhibition can be viewed before the event and will be open until 7:00 p.m. on that day.
The offer is free of charge, but registration is required and is possible via the museum's website.
