A musical reading followed by a discussion

The performance is based on “Die Reise von Fräulein Maus” (The Journey of Miss Mouse), a poetic picture book about emotional highs and lows – told in a child-friendly, loving and symbolically powerful way.

The live music brings the story to life – sometimes quietly, sometimes full of verve. Various instruments are used, including the mysteriously floating theremin, which gives wings to the imagination.

“Die Reise von Fräulein Maus” is the story of a little mouse with pink dots on her fur – dots that show how she is feeling. One day, she leaves her familiar Mittenhausen and flies out into a world full of colors, speed, and high flights. The more dots she has, the more lively, courageous, and exuberant she becomes—until life becomes too fast and she tips over into the opposite: a place full of cold, darkness, and exhaustion. But Miss Mouse is not alone. On her way, she encounters beings who listen, understand, and help her to get closer to herself again.

With child-friendly symbolism, loving illustrations, and gentle language, the book tells of the emotional ups and downs that many children experience—or observe in their parents' behavior. It makes feelings visible, invites empathy, and opens up educational and therapeutic spaces for conversations that are otherwise difficult to initiate. A poetic journey to inner balance—for children, parents, relatives, and professionals.

The original illustrations from the book will be exhibited as part of the musical reading. Afterwards, we invite you to join us for an open discussion with the artists and child and adolescent psychiatrist Andrea Pietschman.

“This beautiful book helps children, adolescents, and their parents to understand the difficult topic of bipolar disorder in a playful way.” – Nathalie Feldmann, child and adolescent psychotherapist

Eléonore Vanoli, born in southern Germany in 1984, writes children's books with heart, humor, and a keen sense for what happens between the lines. Her animal protagonists experience adventures, write letters, and quietly negotiate big topics such as friendship, courage, and emotional balance. After studying education in Bamberg, she moved to Hamburg and worked in the psychosocial field for many years. Along the way, she wrote her first stories—imaginative, emotional, and with a touch of slapstick—which are now finding their way to readers young and old. She has been living, working, and writing in Berlin since 2018.

Kerstin Kaernbach is a violinist and multi-instrumentalist—from flutes and singing saws to theremin. She toured around the globe with the 17 Hippies for many years and now plays with Lüül, among others. As a theater musician, she has participated in the IMPRO-Visionen series and FILM RISS THEATER, which has been developing new multimedia object theater formats with improvisation and walk-in images since 2017. In 2022, she composed and performed live music for the circus theater production AUFLEUCHTEN. Since 2014, she has also been co-owner of the paul+paula bookstore in Victoriastadt, Berlin-Lichtenberg.
