The NEINhorn is a cheeky story full of wordplay that rejects any message. But who knows—the grumpy dialogues of the protagonists might sound familiar to some.
Fairytale-like minimalism: In her production, director Birga Ipsen adapts the inexhaustible imagination of children at play and creates a magical world from just a few elements. Dialogue flows seamlessly into songs, enriched under the direction of Matthias Witting with marimba, glockenspiel, ocarina, and nose flute.
The NEINhorn is born in the Heart Forest, a sugary magical world with “super-sunny sun-hills” and “wildly cascading waterfalls.” Its perpetually happy fellow creatures get on the NEINhorn’s nerves. So it bids farewell to its lovely homeland with a snotty “Bye then!”
