Immerse yourself in the history of Checkpoint Charlie in a new way.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Berlin Wall Foundation and shoutr labs present the augmented reality app "Cold War Berlin" about the history of the tank confrontation at Checkpoint Charlie. The app is available in German and English free of charge in all app stores. It is also suitable for use in the classroom.

About the historical context:
In October 1961, a few months after the construction of the Berlin Wall, U.S. and Soviet tanks face each other at the Allied Checkpoint Charlie and the GDR border crossing Friedrich-/Zimmerstraße. The pictures of the tanks in the middle of the divided city went around the world at the time, and even today almost everyone knows them.
About the app:The augmented reality app "Cold War Berlin" makes it possible to experience this history in three dimensions.A smartphone or tablet can be used to visualize a true-to-scale 3D model of the border crossing at any location. From the construction of the Wall to the confrontation in 1961, the Friedrich/Zimmerstrasse crossing can be displayed from different angles. Historical photos, films and radio reports complement the offering and invite visitors to discover the history of the Cold War in Berlin.
