Galerie Sara Lily Perez is pleased to present Chronostasis, a duo exhibition by Berlin-based artists René Wirths and Wolfgang Flad, on view from 14 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. The exhibition takes its title from the perceptual illusion “chronostasis,” in which the first moment of perception expands, as if time momentarily stops.
Across painting and sculpture, Wirths and Flad probe how art can suspend motion, distilling the fleeting into states of concentrated stillness.
René Wirths’ large-scale oil paintings isolate everyday objects, coffee tins, glasses, tools, against immaculate solid grounds. Working exclusively from life, he paints with analytic precision and meditative patience, transforming the commonplace into quiet revelations. His surfaces pulse with stillness, inviting the viewer into an extended encounter where time appears to stretch and perception deepens.
Wolfgang Flad’s biomorphic sculptures, composed of wood, paper pulp, and mixed media, give three-dimensional form to the idea of movement held in suspension. Their sinuous organic structures, part vine, part vertebra, suggest energy caught mid-evolution. Through material reuse and flowing contours, Flad explores growth, fragility, and the moment when transformation pauses to reveal its inner architecture.
Together, Wirths and Flad dissolve the boundary between motion and stillness, perception and time.
Chronostasis is a meditation on attention: an invitation to slow down, to enter the elongated present where seeing itself becomes an act of reflection. In this shared space of pause, the exhibition reclaims duration as a site for.
