Santino is a circus child. His life moves with the circus from place to place—here today, there tomorrow, always among animals and caravans. For him, home isn't a fixed place, but rather his family: his parents Angie and Gitano, his brother Giordano, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins—and especially his great-grandfather Ehe.

"Grandpa Ehe" is one of Germany's last great circus directors and tells Santino about a life full of adventures: from the imposing bull elephant Sahib, to his own first steps as a clown, to the indescribable "feeling of freedom" that justifies all the hardships. On Santino's 11th birthday, Ehe asks him the crucial question: What do you want to show in the ring one day? Because Santino, too, should make his contribution to the community. But how do you find your own purpose?
ZIRKUSKIND tells the story of Germany's last nomads—of growing up among extended families, animals, and a life without a safety net, free as a bird. A documentary road movie, enriched with animation, about the power of belonging, community, and freedom.
The film will be shown at select Berlin cinemas: Hackesche Höfe Kino, Bali Kino, Wolf Kino, Planetarium Berlin, Brotfabrik Berlin, and Il Kino.
