"I look at myself in the mirror. There I am. Hungry." In "Half a Portion," Elisabeth Pape tells a very personal story about eating disorders, growing up in poverty, and the compulsions that come with them.

The novel shows why it's so difficult for those affected to break with learned patterns and find a healthy way of dealing with food and money. And it explores how family supports but also suffocates.
