Literature reflects social upheavals and crises – social, political, economic, and aesthetic. In 1989, people were searching for orientation on Berlin's Alexanderplatz; the literary controversy and scandals surrounding Strauss, Grass, Handke, and Walser transformed the public sphere. Award-winning literary scholar Steffen Martus discusses this with Thomas Hummitzsch and Daria Razumovych.

Which of these debates since 1989 (still) concern us today? What has become of literary history, and what (still) has a direct impact on the present surrounding debates about migration, identity, and classism?

Event venue: Gobelin Hall

Note: The event will take place outside of regular opening hours. Visiting the exhibition areas will no longer be possible at these times.
