Old homeland – new homeland
To mark Archives Day, the Stasi Records Archive at the Federal Archives and the Robert Havemann Society, together with the Archive of the GDR Opposition, are opening their doors and providing answers to these and many other questions. In keeping with this year's motto, "Old Homeland – New Homeland," stories and aspects of origin, flight, and arrival will also be explored.

Program on March 7, 2026
11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.: Short workshop with Stasi files. Workshop on a sample file collection focusing on files of individuals who applied to leave the country. Location: "Building 7," Room 029 – 45 min. No registration required.
11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.: Guided tour "A Glimpse into the Secret." Tour of the permanent exhibition of the Stasi Records Archive with a look inside the storage area. Meeting point: "Building 7," Foyer – 45 min. No registration required.
12:00 p.m.: Lecture "Escape from the Republic and Arriving in the West." Location: "Building 7," Room 427 – 45 min. No registration required.
12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.: Guided tour of the Archive of the GDR Opposition. What happens when an archive moves? The Robert Havemann Society offers insights into the preparations for its archive relocation. Meeting point: Ruschestraße 103, "Building 17" – 90 min. Registration required.
12:30 p.m.: Guided tour of a card index room. A visit to the card index area in the Stasi Records Archive. Meeting point: "Building 7," foyer – 45 min. Registration required: einblick-ins-geheime@bundesarchiv.de
All-day events: Tour of the digitization workshop. Presentation of the working methods used in the digitization of written documents. Location: "Building 7," 3rd floor. Consultation on accessing Stasi files. A personal ID is required for on-site applications. Location: Building 7, Ground Floor, Exhibition Information: Reconstruction of Torn Stasi Files. Location: Building 7, Ground Floor, Room 030: Presentation of the Federal Archives' Departments for the GDR and the German Reich (Lichterfelde/Tegel).
