ANNETTE, A HEROINE EPOS tells the story of Annette Beaumanoir, a French neurologist who, as a young woman, was part of the Resistance against the Nazis and later supported the National Liberation Front in the Algerian War of Independence. The former earned her a lot of honor in France, for the latter she was sentenced to ten years in prison - which raises the question of who has the authority to interpret "heroism".
Based on the novel-slash-heroine song by Anne Weber, which was awarded the German Book Prize in 2020, playwright Clemens Mädge is creating his own play version for the Vagantenbühne.
The director is Kathrin Mayr, who staged “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” by Heinrich Böll at the Vagantenbühne in the 2022/23 season, among other things.
