"We call ourselves 'disabled and crazy' to reclaim these terms. We don't want any more shame. No conformity. No quiet corners for ourselves. We take the space we need. We disrupt. We celebrate. We fight."
The Disabled and Crazy Celebrate Pride Parade is a self-organized alliance that organizes a parade every year for people with disabilities and those experiencing crisis. Behind Pride are people with and without disabilities, people with and without psychiatric diagnoses, and their supporters. The Glitter Crutch is awarded there every year.
The Glitter Crutch is a negative award. Not everyone receives this beautiful, glittery trophy. It is intended for organizations/companies/institutions/laws/and individuals who have distinguished themselves in a particularly negative way by further excluding or discriminating against disabled and crazy people.
This year, the Glitter Crutch was awarded during the parade – but because there are simply too many worthy candidates, we're doing it again: A second Glitter Crutch will be awarded at the festival's grand closing party!
The winners were selected from the pool of nominations already submitted – so the audience has twice the reason to look forward to the party and the awards ceremony.
Come along, celebrate, and vote for who truly deserves this glittering image damage!
