12. Symphonic Mob

The Rundfunkchor Berlin will join as the vocal partner, and the program features works by Bizet, Brahms, Bonis, Haydn, and Mozart. Registration is now open at ➔ symphonic-mob.de.

Since 2014, the “Symphonic Mob” has been bringing together instrumentalists and singers of all ages and musical backgrounds with the professional musicians of the DSO, offering the rare opportunity to create a concert together. The concept has inspired so many people that it is now organized by other ensembles in numerous cities across Europe under a registered umbrella brand, facilitating musical encounters between professional ensembles and music-loving amateurs. In 2024, the original Berlin “Mob” celebrated its tenth anniversary with 1,000 participants. And in 2026, music enthusiasts are once again invited to make music together with the DSO professionals and members of the Berlin Radio Choir, this time for the first time at the Forum of the Center at Potsdamer Platz. Anyone can take part!

This year's musical director will be Kazuki Yamada, who will take up the post of new chief conductor of the DSO at the start of the 2026/2027 concert season. At the “Symphonic Mob,” he will now have his first opportunity to familiarize himself with both the iconic format and the orchestra’s community. In addition to the “Dies irae” from Mozart’s Requiem, this year’s “Mob” program also features Mélanie Bonis’s “Bourrée,” the excerpt “The Great Work Is Complete” from Haydn’s “The Creation,” and, as the opening piece, Johannes Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 4. The Farandole from Bizet's Second Arlésienne Suite will be performed as a spectacular finale.

The sheet music for all individual parts is now also available for download on the website in original or simplified form. In the weeks leading up to the “Mob,” rehearsals will be offered for individual voice groups, during which DSO musicians will assist with preparation and provide tips for navigating difficult passages. Further information on the location and time of the rehearsals will also be available shortly on the project website.

The dress rehearsal with Kazuki Yamada will take place on the day of the concert starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Forum of the Center at Potsdamer Platz, before the “Symphonic Mob” begins there at 3:30 p.m.
