INTERFILM42: Scams & Mushrooms

What do mushrooms and scams have in common? Both are capable of thriving pretty much everywhere – they spread out in all directions and can pop up where you least expect them. Mushroom websites sprout from a soil of ones and zeroes, a call from a scammer morphs into an exchange of unanticipated intimacy and AI fantasies threaten to drive a filmmaker mad. Memories, feelings of guilt or regret and far away places engender their own unique substrates, in which humans and machines tunnel their way through worlds both virtual and real.
