With UNCOVER, Women in Arts and Media e. V. is launching an interdisciplinary exhibition project featuring artists from East Germany.

At the heart of the project is a gap in the perception of East German art: Many artists who were born and raised in the GDR or grew up in East Germany after 1989/90 remain largely invisible beyond regional contexts to this day.
The UNCOVER exhibition series will be continuously expanded to include additional artists and will continue with exhibitions at various locations in East and West Germany.
“More than three decades after reunification, the question of which East German artists are making their mark in the history of German art as a whole remains open. UNCOVER addresses this issue, linking the historic turning point of 1989/90 with contemporary questions of the canon, recognition, and access.”

Panel discussion, moderated by Sarah Alberti, author, journalist, and art historian, in conversation with Vivien Schlecht, an artist featured in the exhibition, as well as another visual artist who is currently being invited to participate.
