With songs full of groovy musicality and clever lyrics, Michael Krebs has been thrilling his audience for over 20 years. Seeing how openly, straightforwardly, and quick-wittedly the songwriter approaches his concerts puts a huge grin on your face and makes one thing clear: the live stage is his element.

But even this notoriously cheerful guy at the piano has started to have doubts. Is his once-praised authenticity still acceptable in an age of “survival of the fakest”? Why does the phrase “problem zone” make everyone think of their stomach, legs, and butt—and not their brain? Where can you emigrate to when the far right is already everywhere? And above all: Is the future even a solution anymore?

Fortunately, thanks to TikTok-shredded attention spans, no one expects an answer to such complex questions anymore. Maybe Michael Krebs will give one anyway. As long as we can laugh at ourselves together, painting a bleak picture is definitely not an option. You don’t have to be the brightest light on the dark web to figure that out.

“I no longer believe in humanity, but I still believe in humaneness,” says Michael Krebs. And so his concerts aren’t the kind that let you forget the world out there for two hours. Much better: they let you see the world through different eyes. And that feels good. So good that you have to exaggerate to avoid lying.
