IVAN GETTE

After almost four years and over 500 exhibiting artists, NOTAGALLERY is closing its doors at its last location in Berlin-Kreuzberg. During this period, the nomadic gallery concept transformed temporary and often overlooked places in the city into exhibition spaces and opened up new approaches to contemporary art.

NOTAGALLERY's final exhibition is a solo show by its founder, Ivan Gette.

Words Don't Go Far Enough, Colour Does’ deliberately marks a transition. It concludes a community-based project and at the same time represents a phase in which Gette devotes his full attention to his own artistic practice.

Gette's works arise from a tension between intuition, memory and emotional perception. Colour functions as an immediate language where words are no longer sufficient. His images move between intensity and calm, between powerful gestures and sensitive transitions. As in earlier phases of his work, Gette continues to rely on an open, impulsive process in his current series. The works are characterised by a life marked by biographical movement and experiences that have arisen in different cultural contexts.

As the founder of NOTAGALLERY, Ivan Gette has been closely involved in the conceptual, curatorial and artistic development of the project in recent years. This work was complemented by an artist residency in Goa. These experiences flow into the new series of works and expand his exploration of colour, atmosphere and emotional resonance.

With his background in skate and street culture, his independent abstract style and his roots in the Berlin art scene, Gette moves at the interface between subculture and the contemporary art market. The latest exhibition at NOTAGALLERY thus also reflects a central conviction of the project: that artistic quality and accessibility do not have to be mutually exclusive.
