Carpaccio is the great storyteller. In this canvas, Stephen is ordained a deacon by Peter. The painter not only depicts people of various nationalities in the audience, but also, at the very edge, a seated pilgrim observing the scene. A self-portrait of the artist?

Speakers: Neville Rowley, Gemäldegalerie Berlin, and Christhard-Georg Neubert, Stiftung Christliche Kunst Wittenberg

The interdisciplinary lecture series "Christian Art Interpretation" takes place—except during the summer break—generally once a month and is a collaboration between the St. Matthew Foundation and the Gemäldegalerie of the National Museums in Berlin. Following the liturgical calendar, selected paintings are discussed and presented for debate by an art historian and a theologian.

Participation is free of charge. No registration is required.
