Without the "x", Propaganda was active from 1982 to 1990. The project was originally founded by former "Die Krupps" member Ralf Dörper.

Together with Susanne Freytag and Andreas Thein, the trio recorded two tracks. In 1983, Michael Mertens and Claudia Brücken joined the group. That same year, the band was signed by the British label ZTT Records and released the single Dr. Mabuse.

Criticism and negative press soon followed. Producer Trevor Horn had to make a change and transformed the group from what was considered a “noise-making act” into a dark synth-pop band.

With this new style came the release of the album A Secret Wish, which brought the group significant attention and acclaim. Propaganda quickly achieved international success, gaining fans throughout Europe and America. Their striking, sensual electronic sound and enigmatic image belong as much to the new music and technology landscape of the 2020s as they did to the 1980s.

After years of collaboration and further musical success, the band eventually went their separate ways. Finally, in 2018, the long-awaited reunion took place. Reborn as xPropaganda, the vocalists played two sold-out headline shows at The Garage in London. After returning to the stage, they reconnected with A Secret Wish producer Stephen Lipson to create new music.

Nearly four decades after the release of their iconic LP, the Düsseldorf-based artists, together with Stephen Lipson, released their stunning new album The Heart Is Strange on May 20, 2022.

Now, xPropaganda are touring Germany—bringing the spirit of the '80s to Berlin!
