A magnificent celebration of the art of millinery and style
Berlin will once again be part of an extraordinary global cultural event: The World Hat Walk simultaneously connects nearly 90 cities across six continents in a stylish, creative, and communal movement.
The world’s largest coordinated hat parade brings together professional milliners, designers, vintage enthusiasts, students, collectors, cosplayers—and even four-legged friends, provided they’re wearing hats—to showcase the art of hatmaking and jointly make a statement for individuality and creative expression.
Participation is free of charge. The focus is on meeting others, sharing experiences, and having fun—and supporting the work of the German Heart Foundation.
Each city designs its own route, reflecting its unique cultural character. In Berlin, the walk starts at Pariser Platz and winds through the historic heart of the city.
Hat competition
As usual, all visitors are invited to showcase their best styles and participate in the competition. This year, there are special categories specifically for Mother’s Day: Best Mom-Daughter Look.
Additionally, the following will be awarded: traditionally Best Hat, Best Hat Pair, Best Style, Best Family Look, Best Theatrical Look, Best Vintage Look.
- For our younger visitors, the Kids’ Corner offers the chance to learn the basics of hat-making in a playful way.
- This year’s raffle is organized through donations from members of the Millinery Collective; the proceeds will benefit the German Brain Foundation.
The World Hat Walk was launched in 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, to celebrate the art of hat-making and bring hat enthusiasts together. The initiative quickly gained momentum and inspired cities around the world to organize their own hat walks.
Berlin participated in this tradition for the first time in 2024, signaling the growing enthusiasm for hat culture in the city.
In Berlin, the World Hat Walk is being continued under the leadership of Tatiana Ashakova Turko, a sustainable fashion curator, milliner, and philanthropist. She is the founder of the Berlin-based label BeretkAh… , which is part of Fashion Council Germany, and combines traditional craftsmanship with sustainable design and social engagement.
Berlin sets an example for style, community, and empathy
With the digital campaign #HutAbFürEmpathie, the World Hat Walk combines cultural symbolism with social responsibility. In cooperation with the German Brain Foundation, a publicly visible statement is being made to promote greater understanding of people with invisible neurological conditions.
At the heart of it is a simple, powerful gesture: the deliberate lifting of one’s hat—historically a sign of respect, today reinterpreted as an expression of recognition for the invisible.
On May 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Pariser Platz, the World Hat Walk will mark the highlight of the initiative.
Participants will lift their hats simultaneously—a visible, silent moment of solidarity that carries the message of #HutAbFürEmpathie to the public and supports the work of the German Brain Foundation.
