The criticism of the Church by Bundestag President Julia Klöckner has sparked a debate about the relationship between the Church and politics. Critics complain about a watering down of central issues and a one-sided political orientation. The other side points to the necessity of the Churches expressing their political views.
On 14 October 2025, journalist Carl-Victor Wachs and pastor Dr Justus Geilhufe will meet in a debate to explore this area of tension in a productive manner. The discussion will be moderated by political scientist Dr Carlotta Voß.
