Outrageous women: Chansons and stories about the seemingly weaker sex
The weaker sex? Not a chance! “What men can do, we’ve been able to do for ages—and maybe even a whole lot more!” the great Berlin comedienne Claire Waldoff belted out from the stage as far back as the imperial era and the 1920s.
For a long time, women had no right to vote, were not allowed to open their own bank accounts, or work without their husband’s consent. Unheard of! “Why can’t a woman be like me?” asks language professor Higgins in the musical “My Fair Lady.”
Actress and chanson singer “Chanson-Nette” Jeannette Urzendowsky and Tal Bahai (piano/vocals/songwriter) bring this whole absurd glorification of the male world to a cabaret-style head at the Theater im Palais.
In a turbo-charged journey through 250 years, “woman” is examined under the microscope—socially, artistically, and historically. Female scientists, activists, and artists such as Trude Hesterberg, Claire Waldoff, Fifi Brix, Hilde Knef, and Trude Herr have their say.
It’s time women can finally be who we feel comfortable being—on equal footing with men!
That’s why Tal and I are performing here together as a w/m duo. Just like that!
