History, stories, legends, and fairy tales about trees
Tree death and climate change are on everyone's lips – but forests and the diversity of tree species have always preoccupied people in very different ways. Our ancestors often humanized everything around them, giving a voice to the voiceless or letting trees bear children. Some peoples believed that this was how the first humans came into being. We take you on a journey into mythology, into distant times when there were "sacred groves" and humans seemed closer to nature than they do today, when they often fall prey to the misconception that they can control it. There are also texts by Hans Christian Andersen, Gottfried Keller, Erich Kästner, Günter Eich, Bertolt Brecht, and a particularly touching one by the Frenchman Jean Giono: The Man Who Planted Trees. The woodwind instrument, the flute (with piano accompaniment), guides us musically through the world of trees.
