Silent film with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer

Director Max Mack is one of those filmmakers who have been largely forgotten in film history. Mack, the son of a Jewish cantor, was active in the Berlin film scene from 1910 to 1933, where he played a central role. Mack's innovations, his use of popular genres, and his modern themes led to great contemporary success.

Long after his time as an active filmmaker, Mack was also regarded by his contemporaries as the director who “discovered Berlin for film.” “Where is Coletti?” shows rare footage of the metropolis before the two world wars.

  • Director: Max Mack, Germany 1913, 80 minutes, starring Hans Junkermann, Max Laurence, Madge Lessing, Anna Müller-Lincke, Heinrich Peer, Hans Stock, Axel Breidahl.

A film from the collection of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in Wiesbaden.
