akademie der autodidakten

Would you enter a room where you had to relinquish control? Let go. Simply let go. And dream… allowed to. But about what exactly? For what purpose? And above all: with what power?

Society wants people to be rational and self-controlled. Every minute is supposed to be timed, planned, and fully utilized. Sometimes we no longer dare to dream and allow ourselves to experience all the complex emotions that come with it. So where do we get the energy to create art, develop political visions, and imagine the "impossible"?

In Weaving Dreams, a group of young adults takes up this question and embarks on a search for the possibilities of dreaming, taking the time to experiment and formulate political visions.

Under the direction of actor Sisi Bo’wale, the participants of the academy of self-taught individuals explored dreaming as a political practice. This practice is by no means new, as Black communities and communities of color have often drawn upon it, especially in times of anxiety, fear, or horror. The participants build upon this knowledge. The result is a performance that takes us on a journey into the universe of the unconscious. Here, they offer us their own vocabulary of the imaginary, but also invite us—with curiosity and trust—to enter the space with them. And to continue building upon it.
