industrial accidents in the GDR
In the chemical and energy industries of the GDR there were repeated industrial accidents with fatalities and injuries. On paper, the occupational safety measures met all requirements.
In reality, there was a lack of modern technology everywhere, while in production the Stasi initially assumed that every serious accident was sabotage by the western class enemy. Based on some particularly severe accidents, the lecture will show how the production capacity of the GDR was systematically worn out to the end.
