Performing Arts Season 2025/2026

"Wayward Chant," the new work by artist and choreographer Ligia Lewis, explores the connection between beauty and despair through the activation of a choir. The stripped-down score consists of singing and moving bodies operating in precise formations.

The choreography sounds like a delayed, hummed hymn, from which a sonic and physical interplay of dissonance and reverberation emerges. Early Western liturgical sounds merge with bluesy melodies and harmonies, forming an atmospheric reflection on a lingering past. With her broad interdisciplinary practice, Ligia Lewis is one of the most important voices in a reimagining of performance in the context of the visual arts.

As an Artist in Focus at the Berliner Festspiele in 2025, she will be represented with a concert performance at MaerzMusik, an exhibition at the Gropius Bau, and her newly commissioned work "Wayward Chant," which will premiere on November 28 and 29 as part of the Performing Arts Season.
