Édith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich met in New York in 1947. The young, seemingly untamable, sassy chansonette from Paris moved audiences to tears with her voice and also captivated Marlene Dietrich—that tall blonde, already a global star, with her Prussian virtues, her men, and her women.

They quickly become best friends, bound by a deep love. After Dietrich’s death, a yellowed little note was found on her nightstand—one she had likely always carried with her. On it, Piaf had written: “Never forget that I love you!”

These two women are the fixed point around which a vast cosmos unfolds. The audience encounters them in Paris, Berlin, New York, and all over the world. It is an evening full of stories, anecdotes, eyewitness accounts, and above all, music: major and minor chansons by Édith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Charles Aznavour, Yves Montand, ZAZ, and Charles Trenet.
