Nancy Naser Al Deen
Under the open sky and open to everyone, Nancy Naser Al Deen invites you to a Dabke workshop as part of the UNEXPECTED LESSONS – Knowledges of Body and Sound series. Dabke is a folk dance rooted in Bilad al-Sham (Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan). Through stomping, repetitions, and circular and linear formations, Dabke creates space for communal flow, celebration, and solidarity.
The workshop focuses on Dabke styles practiced in Baalbek, Lebanon. Participants will learn basic steps and explore different styles; the session will conclude with the formation of a Dabke circle.
The second part of the series “UNEXPECTED LESSON 2: Music as Resistance” is dedicated to music and dance practices as forms of resistance. In addition to the Dabke workshop with Nancy Naser Al Deen, DJ DumTak and Homaira invite you to the listening session “Meshwar Mixtapes – Intro to Afghanistan.”
