Horst Bartnig (1936–2025). Selected works from the estate

The Mies van der Rohe House pays tribute to the concrete artist Horst Bartnig, who died in 2025, with works from his estate.

Bartnig had been associated with the house for decades; he had already held solo exhibitions here in 1994 and 2003. The focused exhibition brings together works from six decades – from early attempts at abstraction to the late, systematically developed form and colour structures of the work groups ‘Square Pictures,’ “Variations” and ‘Interruptions.’ The clarity of Mies van der Rohe's architecture reflects Bartnig's idea of design as a thought process.
