In the group exhibition On the Threshold: Exile, the Kommunale Galerie Berlin shows the existential state of exile as a radical break and forced new beginning.

The exhibition illuminates the persistence in the in-between - between loss and new beginnings, past and uncertain future.

On display are works that capture the physical act of flight as well as inner fragmentation, loss of identity and the special conditions of artistic work in a foreign country.

The focus is on the phenomenon of transgenerational trauma - as well as the impact of family memory and the emergence of myths in the context of the diaspora. In each of the works presented, the threshold appears as a central moment in the artistic processing of these experiences. At the same time, they are an invitation to pass on stories that have been told.
