Exploring the church tower anew.
You are cordially invited to the Slow Tower Climb Day on Tuesday, 3 October 2023 from 12:00 to 18:00. Anyone who can still climb stairs can climb the 229 steps to the most beautiful view over Spandau and the surrounding area at their own pace.
On the way, the exhibitions on the individual floors offer the opportunity to discover new things or to see familiar things in a new context. Tower guides will be standing on each floor to explain and answer questions. And perhaps there will be a surprise or two.
A small working group has revised the exhibition in the church tower of St. Nikolai. The individual floors were structured thematically, exhibits that no longer fit were removed and new illustrative material was sought. New uniform display boards were procured and laboriously dragged into the tower, new content researched and many new texts written. Now we would like to present the result to everyone.
The date has not been chosen arbitrarily, because on 3 October the youngest tower bell will be 33 years old. It was cast on the occasion of the reunification.
In addition, this year we celebrate the 555th anniversary of the completion of our tower, the "highest church tower" in the Mark Brandenburg in the 15th century. These are all reasons to focus on climbing the tower and to make it possible for as many people as possible, in addition to the regular guided tours of the tower.
