Achim Kühn | Plastiken und Antje Pehle | Grafiken
After 16 years, the Hospital Church in Wuhlgarten is once again presenting works by renowned steel sculptor Achim Kühn and graphic artist Antje Pehle.
Under the title "Steel and Paper in Dialogue II," massive steel sculptures and delicate paper works enter into an artistic exchange. The result is contrasts between hardness and fragility, permanence and transience – a dialogue that encourages visitors to reflect on material and expression.
Achim Kühn (born 1942 in Weimar) presents sculptures that visualize the power, weight, and beauty of steel. His works address opposites such as positive and negative, heaviness and lightness, harmony and tension. Kühn understands forging as a creative interplay between material, energy, and imagination. Influenced by his training in Weimar and the continuation of his father Fritz Kühn's workshop since 1967, he strives for timeless aesthetics and inner balance.
The Berlin-based graphic artist Antje Pehle devotes herself to small-format drawings that depict landscapes in poetic condensation. Using ink, pencil, colored pencil, and watercolor, she captures fleeting impressions of the day and seasons. Influenced by hikes through forests, meadows, and lakes, as well as extended stays in Finland, her works reflect accumulated time. As a master student of Prof. Hanns Schimansky at the Berlin-Weißensee Art Academy, she developed a special sensitivity for the essence of nature.
About the Concert
The exhibition opens with the concert "Sweet Bird." The program is dedicated to the song of birds and the musical imitation of nature. Baroque arias by Purcell, Scarlatti, and Torri will be heard, complemented by flute sonatas by Telemann and variations by van Eyck. The climax will be Handel's famous aria "Song of the Sweet Nightingale," which impressively underscores the talent of the three musicians.
