In February 2023, clashes broke out between neo-Nazis and activists at a Europe-wide neo-Nazi gathering in Budapest. Many of the accused activists are now in custody.
Maja T. was extradited to Hungary by German authorities, despite a ruling against it by the Constitutional Court. For over a year, Maja T. has been held in solitary confinement in Hungary under inhumane conditions. She faces up to 24 years in prison in a trial that does not adhere to the rule of law.
Several defendants turned themselves in in January 2025. They are currently in German prisons. Even after almost a year, German courts have still not decided on their extradition to Hungary. Zaid A. is particularly at risk of extradition. The German trial is to be held at the Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf – as far away as possible from their current homes and families.
Another trial begins on November 4 at the Higher Regional Court in Dresden. The authorities are attempting to secure the maximum charges and sentences. Not only membership in a criminal organization, but even attempted murder are among the charges. Hanna S. has already been sentenced to five years in prison in Munich.
This event draws attention to these events from the perspective of the detainees and their families.
What impact does the actions of the authorities have on the families, the accused, and those showing solidarity? How have they experienced repression? How are the accused faring in prison? How can these young people be supported? How can solidarity and political effectiveness be fostered? The broader political context will also be discussed: How do these events fit into the current criminalization of antifascism? How effective is imprisonment in the first place?
First, family members and those showing solidarity will read from letters, diaries, and speeches. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the developments. Participants will include parents and relatives, as well as:
Prof. Dr. Christine Graebsch (Head of the Prison Archives, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts), Mirjam Herrmann (Last Generation), politicians from The Left Party, Konrad Litschko (TAZ), and lawyers.
Organized by: Parents Against Extradition – in cooperation with the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz
