Concert

The practice of diminution and improvisation is just as indispensable to the music of the 15th to 17th centuries as certain melodic and rhythmic “standards” that serve as its foundation; examples include the Ciaconna, Romanesca, Folía, and Passamezzo. It is therefore almost natural to see parallels with the world of jazz. With this fundamental idea in mind, the members of Capella de la Torre breathe new life into Renaissance and early Baroque music, bringing sounds of the past into the present and, conversely, placing contemporary music in a historical context. To mark its 20th anniversary, the ensemble is following in the footsteps of the Ciaconna; the program features compositions from the 15th and 16th centuries as well as improvisations from the realms of jazz and early music.

The program features works from the Cancionero de Palacio and by Francesca Caccini, Diego Ortiz, Salomone Rossi, Andrea Falconieri, Maurizio Cazzati, and others.
