The closure of the sector borders and the start of construction of the Berlin Wall on August 13, 1961 marked a permanent turning point during the Cold War. Since the end of the Second World War, the question of German unity or final division has been a constant point of contention both in Germany and between the two superpowers, the USA and the Soviet Union. The construction of the Wall, the Stalin note of 1952 and the Berlin blockade of 1948/49 are discussed in the short tour.
