September 13, 2026, 1:00–5:00 p.m. — Open Monument Day at the historic town hall in Friedrichshagen

The Historic Friedrichshagen Town Hall—a hub for neighborhood networks since 1899

The theme “NetzWERKE: Monuments & Infrastructure,” issued by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, focuses this year on movement, exchange, and connections that are generated or facilitated by monuments.

“We are all supported by networks: whether within our family or circle of friends, in clubs, churches, or at work—we never exist in isolation, but live in connection with others who form our personal network. From these personal networks emerges the society in which we live and work…”

But networks require infrastructure.

Hubs and their connections form this infrastructure. Built of stone, concrete, or metal, people have created and nurtured this infrastructure—which is what makes them monuments. They give us our identity and should be cared for and preserved not only for these reasons.”

The historic town hall has fulfilled many functions in the past as a key hub in the social life of the neighborhood. While it once served as a town hall, government office, or police station, today it functions simultaneously as a home for local associations and institutions offering social counseling services, as a center for citizen forums and roundtable discussions, and as a cultural center with a pub and ballroom for social gatherings, art, and cultural events.

Thanks to civic engagement, it thus still serves its original purpose (“For the good of the citizens”), provides the residents of Friedrichshagen with a sense of identity, and supports local networks.

The historic site can be visited on your own on September 13 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time, the popular guided tours of the building and the clock tower will also be offered.

Admission is free; donations are welcome.
