created as part of the Freiboxen format at the Deutsches Theater Berlin

Self-Portrait Between Steppe and Forest is a theatrical work by Nikita Betekhtin, created as part of the Freiboxen format at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

In collaboration with actor Alexej Lochmann, a personal evening was created that oscillates between memory and the present, between individual biography and collective experience. The production deliberately moves along the boundary between documentation and artistic condensation, creating an intimate space in which identity reveals itself not as a fixed construct, but as an ongoing process.

Emerging from a reduced, experimental approach to theater, the production emphasizes immediacy, linguistic and visual clarity, and invites the audience to embark on a personal quest. Aspects such as working methods and thematic focus are explored in more detail on the following pages.
