Matthias Neumann is Professor of Organ at the Detmold University of Music. As an organist, he pursues a busy international concert career, gives courses, and serves as a juror in competitions. A particular focus of his work is the music of the North German Baroque, G. Muffat, J.S. Bach, M. Reger, and the French School of the 19th and 20th centuries.
His preference for historical instruments is documented in numerous CD recordings and video productions. He is a Bach Prize winner of the City of Leipzig. After initial organ lessons, he studied church music, organ (concert exam), and conducting in Hamburg, Berlin, and Vienna.
Matthias Neumann initially served as cantor at St. Mary's Church in the Ohlsdorf-Fuhlsbüttel parish in Hamburg. In 2012, he was also appointed professor at the University of Protestant Church Music in Bayreuth. A few years later, he moved to the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, before accepting a position at the Detmold University of Music in 2022.
