Finnish film evening

The documentary film ‘Máhccan – Homecoming’ by director Suvi West from Sápmi in Finland offers a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum world as the filmmaker searches for a connection to her ancestors through old museum objects and encounters the collective pain of the Sámi communities.

Short lecture: Elisabeth Tietmeyer, Director of the Museum of European Cultures

Elisabeth Tietmeyer has been Director of the Museum of European Cultures – National Museums in Berlin, Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation since 2013. Her activities and research at the museum focus on topics such as diversity, (forced) migration, cultural interconnections, gender, minorities in Europe and material culture.


Impulse for the film: Mikko Fritze, Director of the Finland Institute

Mikko Fritze took over as director of the institute in June 2021. Born in Tampere, Finland, to German parents, he spent his childhood in Finland, where he attended the German School in Helsinki. He later studied German, education and biology at the University of Hamburg. Since 1994, he has worked for the Goethe-Institut in a total of five countries.

A collaboration with the Finland Institute and the Museum of European Cultures – National Museums in Berlin.
